Love It

After a 3 year recording absence, New York based trio the Yeah Yeah Yeahs comes back with the synth-drenched, pop-laced album "It's Blitz". In the past, the three-piece sound has been raw and edgy. This new sound is a dangerous gamble, but in my opinion, it's paid off. The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have shown that they don't care what the media or the big record companies think about their music. They do things their own way and don't give a rat's ass what others think, showing a serious case of attitude and pride.

This attitude is what made the band stars in the first place. That, and their raw alternative rock sound launched them into super stardom status. Their new album "It's Blitz" will only reinforce their appeal.

Their first single off the album, "Zero", is full of synth and vocals that are on the verge sometimes of being orgasmic. It is heavily influenced by techno, which is normally not YYY's genre, but it all works. I totally love it!

The YYY's guitarist Nick Zinner completely impressed me; he is one heck of a guitar player, and is responsible for the amazing riffs that dominated the first 2 albums. The media is saying that he was pushed into using synths, but that he had an open mind and it paid off. And considering this was his first time behind the synths, it's amazing how well he did.

"Heads Will Roll", the second track, captures the mood of the album. It is very upbeat, danceable, has killer riffs, and Karen O's intriguing lyrics and vocals. To state it simply, Karen can "rock out", and she can sing a ballad; she's got astonishing skills.

My favorite song on the album, "Dull Life", returns the more traditional YYY's sound, relying more on Zinner's guitar skills and Karen O ability to create a killer melody.

The synths really work well on this album, complimenting the new sound. The vocals, guitar and percussion sound amazing. All three of the band member skills are showcased, blending into an almost-perfect album.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs have released another splendid album. Let's hope they don't wait another three years to get us the next one.
