The 90's gave us the Spice Girls, and now we have the Pussycat Dolls. Both girl bands have pop styles and sexy clothing, but they sell a very different product. The Spice Girls were all about girl power, and they used their bodies when needed to get things done, but they also used their brains. I remember each and every Spice Girl's name and what their character was about. As for the Pussycats Dolls, they are just selling sex, and I can honestly tell you I don't know any of their names. Since the Pussycat Dolls came to fame a few years ago, the anthem of girl power has gone down the tubes, and it makes me sad.
So when they released their new album, "Doll Domination", I wasn't expecting too much. I listened to it a few times through to give it a fair shake. But I came to the conclusion it is just okay. It has a few songs that are great dance anthems, like the title track, "When I Grow Up", "Whatcha Think About That" and "Bottle Up". But the rest of it just feels like filler. The slow songs like "Happily Ever After" are okay, but they felt like they belonged on a Disney album, not an I'm-selling-sex-to-anyone-who-wants-it album.
A few notable producers like Timbaland, Polow da Don, and Rodney Jerkins did work on this album, but none of the songs are anything special. Timberland helped with "Magic", which in my opinion didn't have any. Polow da Don produced and sang on "Out of this Club", which I liked the chorus to, but felt the rest was in need of some help. And Jerkins... Okay I take it back. "When I Grow Up" is my favorite song on the album, so he did good.
"Doll Domination" is fun, but it could be better. If you love the Pussycat Dolls, then by all means, go get it. You'll get your 60 minutes of sex on a stick and love it. If not, download the good songs individually and save yourself the horror of the having to listen to the crap.
