Some bands are lucky enough to get picked up by a music label and make a CD. But most of those bands fall flat after they attempt to make their second CD because they get stuck in the trap of either trying to be different, or making the first CD over again just with slightly different chordal progressions.
A few are fortunate to find the balance and make an album that is similar enough to their roots to draw in their fans, but different enough to still sound fresh. And this is what The Kings of Leon have done on every album they have released, and especially on their fourth album "Only by the Night".
The band from Tennessee, consisting of three brothers and their cousin, let the music flow as it came to them while on tour, and their efforts paid off. "Only by the Night" shows their growth musically, as well as their staying power.
I love this album. It has the very emotional and thought-provoking "Use Somebody", "Cold Desert," and the radio darling about relationships and sexuality, "Sex on Fire."
The true sign of a great band is its staying power and growth. And with "Only by the Night", The Kings of Leon have proven they are going to be around for a long time. I, for one, can't wait.
