Review - Ashlee Simpson
Reviewer: Charise Payne Rating:
Almost everyone knows Ashlee Simpson and Fall Out Boy's Pete Wentz got engaged. He gave her a huge diamond ring, and they could be expecting their first child. But does everyone know that "Bittersweet World" (Geffen) is perhaps the worst CD ever made? It is horrible. It feels like a really bad album from the 80s, and I hated every moment of it.
I can't still believe the album's first single ("Outta My Head") was produced by Timbaland. It reminds me of Missing Persons and Toni Bassil all wrapped up in one annoying song. Ashlee then gave us the delightful bubblegum "Boys." Ah, gag me. Cyndi Lauper was hot in the 80s, and not even she would be caught dead singing this wannabe "Girls Just Want to Have Fun".
I had hopes for the title track ("Bittersweet World"), but then it was just another version of a bad Stray Cats' song. Another travesty is the song "Ragdoll." I am feeling the need to pull on some legwarmers and break out some Tiffany. I had hoped for one song I liked, so I relented and agreed that I kind of liked "Never Dream Alone". It's not the best ballad I have heard by a long shot, but it doesn’t suck.
Since I am sure this won't be her last album, let’s hope that Ashlee’s next album will be good enough that rumors of a pregnancy, a wedding, and a killer diamond won’t be needed to sell her music. She needs to sell her music, not her love life. Oh, and remember that just because 80s clothes might be in style, it doesn’t mean the music is.
