Bolt is a fun, exciting adventure that is great for a night out with the family. Kids will love this movie. It is filled with comedy, action, and emotion; however, some adults may think it drones on, and will wonder when they can stop looking at their watches, hoping for it to end.

The movie follows the life of a dog named Bolt (voiced by John Travolta). He has been raised, from puppy to full-grown dog, on a television set in Hollywood. He doesn't know anything else, and he believes that the show he stars in is really his life. On his show, he plays a dog that has been genetically altered to have super powers. But after being accidentally shipped to New York, he realizes he's been separated from his beloved Penny (voiced by Miley Cyrus), his co-star, and in his mind, his reasonability. He has to get back to her and his life in Hollywood, and so a cross-country trip ensues.

Along this journey, Bolt meets Mittens (voiced by Susie Essman), a stray cat who manipulates pigeons to bring her food in exchange for her protection from themselves from other stray cats. Bolt takes Mittens across the country, not worried for their safety because he believes his super powers can get him out of troublesome moments. No one has ever told him he doesn't actually have super powers. Meanwhile, Mittens thinks Bolt is psychotic, as she's never seen his TV show. But that all changes when they meet Rhino (voiced by Mark Walton), a TV-watching hamster who recognizes Bolt as his favorite superhero. From there on, Bolt has a sidekick, whether he likes it or not.

When Bolt and Mittens are picked up by Animal Control, Bolt tries to escape, and then realizes that he is powerless. Rhino helps Bolt escape right before a bump in the road knocks them off the truck. With Mittens stuck in the pound, Rhino convinces Bolt to rescue her. With a successful jail break, Bolt is even more determined to find Penny and get home to her.

With such great characters, this story did have potential. But Bolt lacked in the original story department. Honestly, I found it to be a lot like Finding Nemo. Sadly, even though the action sequences were killer, most of the movie bored me. I found myself barely keeping my eyes open, and I was more interested in watching the other theater-goers than the film itself.

Bolt is really a good movie for kids who feel down on themselves. It can help them believe that they can also be a hero in their own lives. The animation was amazing (almost Pixar-like), and sometimes I even enjoyed the dialogue.

Bolt is a fun family film, and Disney once again zeroes in on what kids like. The action sequences, quick witty remarks, and animation help the film capture the attention of the adults as well. But Bolt is more for the children, so if you go, make sure you bring one along or you won't enjoy it as much.
