Review - "Top 8"
Reviewer: Cori Vella Rating:
"Madison MacDonald is seriously freaking out." And for good reason — while she was on vacation, someone hacked her Friendverse profile, sending malicious messages and comments to her friends from school. What results from those comments is disastrous.
Madison loses her boyfriend, is the target of undeserved hatred school-wide, and questions the loyalty of even her closest friends. Who would try to ruin her life like that, and who could possibly know the secrets that the hacker spilled for everyone to see on Friendverse?
Top 8 is a cute mystery centered around high school gossip and a fictional Myspace equivalent. It takes a look at an aspect of teenagers' lives that is becoming the social focal point, and what can result when passwords and secrets fall into the wrong hands. It leaves the reader with a strong message about why gossip is wrong, and what can happen when one talks about other people behind their backs.
Not going to become a best-seller, and probably won't be relevant in a few years when the next trend bumps Myspace and Facebook on their butts, Top 8 is cute. That's all it is. Cute. I want to pinch its cheeks, except it doesn't have any. Worth a read, but not much else.
